HOWES CAVE -
The Otsego-Schoharie Masonic District Masters and Wardens
Association has the
Fellowcraft
of the District laboring in the mines in order to bring Masons
everywhere the opportunity of a unique experience
and help the Association to do Masonic works in their District.
The Association
is continually looking for a fundraiser that have real potential to
raise significant funds and Bro. J R Mallery, whose family owns and
operates Secret Caverns in upstate New York, stepped forward in true
Masonic fashion with an incredibly generous offer.
Opened to the
public in 1927, Secret Caverns educates and entertains visitors by
offering guided tours through an accessible and well-lit
65,000-year-old cavern featuring a 100' underground waterfall.
The guided tour
of approximately one hour begins by descending 103 stairs to the
caverns floor where well-seasoned tour guides illuminate the ancient
passages with both scientific knowledge and mirth.
Secret Caverns
is pleased to support the Otsego - Schoharie Masonic District with a
Masters Masons week. From July 24th - 30th all Master Masons in
possession of a valid dues card, and all accompanying a Master Mason
in good standing will receive a special discounted admission rate of
ten dollars for adults, children 6 - 12 $5.00 and children under six
are free. One half of the proceeds will go to the Otsego - Schoharie
Masters and Wardens association to be used in the good work of the
district. As a destination for Scouting and other youth based
groups, Secret Caverns offers ample pondside grounds for picnicking
and nature trails for walking.
The Caverns are
located 45 minutes west of Albany New York. I-88 exit 22, right on
route seven east, follow signs north about 3 miles. Visit the
caverns on the web at
www.secretcaverns.com or call 1-518-296-8558 for more
information. The Caverns requests that groups over ten in number
contact them in advance for the best and most prompt accommodations
Come see why the
New York Times has called Secret Caverns "pleasantly non dogmatic"
and help your Brother Masons in the process. |
